October 2026
Hello everyone,
Few things this month...
1- We are closed October 11th, 12th, and 24th for all classes.
2- If you wish to observe the tournament on the 24th, information can be found here: https://smoothcomp.com/en/event/34284
3- We are having an inhouse tournament with modified rules in November. I have changed the dates since first sending the email out. The updated information and to register is here: https://www.reginabjj.com/tournament
4- I wrote a blog post last night about how I view the merit of competition and arrived at no longer recommending the IBJJF format for kids. Should that interest you, you can read it at https://www.reginabjj.com/blog
5- Recovery. Jiu-Jitsu and sitting is hard on the body, and stretching either is not a routine or we feel that we can't make time for it. I have been seeing Jordan about once every 4-6 weeks, and it has made a difference in my body. The treatment is expensive ($150 for an hour), but I would recommend checking him out at least once. I am not being incentivized in any way to promote his business. https://projectenergy.ca/
We are off to a great start this fall, and I thank you for your continued support.
Hope you all have a great month ahead.
September 2026
Gi Season is Back
We're back to Gi starting Saturday. I have a small number of Gis available for purchase if you're interested.
Footwear Policy
No bare feet anywhere except on the mats during class. Please bring sandals or socks to wear everywhere except the training floor itself. Parents are welcome to wear socks. If you arrive barefoot, that's fine — you just won't be permitted on any floor area except the black mats.
Thinking About Joining the Adult Program?
All new students now get a free intro class with me before their first regular class. For the month of September, all 6- and 12-month memberships are 40% off.
Schedule Change
Starting the week of September 21, I'll be teaching both Adult Beginner classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Queen City Open — Gi Tournament
Happening October 24. We'll be closed that day so I can coach — let me know if you're interested in competing.
In-House Kids Tournament
I'll be running our own in-house kids tournament in November or December, with a modified format — the way I believe kids' jiu-jitsu tournaments should be run. More details to come; it won't affect regular classes.
Congrats, Tyler!
Tyler received his blue belt a few days ago — well deserved!
Closure Dates
We'll be closed:
Thanksgiving Sunday and Monday (October 11–12)
October 24 (coaching at the Queen City Open)
